Strings vs Rings

Finding your perfect planning system
Choosing between a Traveler’s Notebook (strings) and a Ring Binder (rings) is a common issue we planner enthusiasts struggle with. Each system offers unique advantages depending on whether you are focused on planning, journaling, or creative expression.
Rings: Flexibility and organisation
Ring-bound planners are the gold standard for flexibility. Their primary advantage is the ability to move single pages around. Whether you're inserting a specific recipe for the week or moving a daily to-do list into your weekly section, rings make it very easy for you. Most ring covers also come pre-equipped with multiple pockets and pen loops, making them ideal "all-in-one" systems or wallets. However, the fixed ring size can be a limitation and the rings themselves often get in the way of writing, especially for left-handed users.
Strings: Slim portability and writing comfort
Traveler’s Notebooks (TNs) excel in simplicity and portability. Since they use elastics to hold entire booklets, they are often much slimmer and lighter than ring binders. Their biggest draw for many is the writing experience; because there are no rings in the center, the notebooks lay flat, allowing you to write comfortably from edge to edge. This makes them perfect for long-form journaling, scripture writing, or memory keeping. The downside is that you cannot easily move individual pages; you are committed to the order of the booklet.
But here our modular printable inserts help you to stay more flexible even with your favourite Traveler’s Notebook planner.
Why Choose One When You Can Use Both?
Many creators find that a "hybrid" approach works best. You might use a ring binder as a desk planner or a highly functional "on-the-go" wallet, while reserving a Traveler’s Notebook for personal reflection and creative writing. Ultimately, the choice isn't about which system is "better," but which one fits the specific task at hand.
Don’t worry to start
Since our inserts are designed very similarly for both systems, it is easy to switch from one to another. And our bundles are making it very affordable to start with your planner journey.
